You know how people always seem to focus on ways to do things the right way, or how to get better at something? We always hear tips and tricks about how to do this, or how to do that, or top 5 things you need to try… to succeed or get better at something… right?
Aiming to fail is never a goal we want to set, let’s be clear.
However, it can be overwhelming to keep up with all the best practices and helpful tips. And it’s especially true when it comes to healthy living and easy ways to lose weight. Whatever the goal is, it always comes down to willpower and persistence.
And in general for most humans, its usually easier to avoid something than it is to commit to doing something. Focusing on NOT doing something can actually be easier or more effective in working towards a goal.
We’re all familiar with using reverse psychology and getting someone to do something by asking for the opposite. Saying “No” more than you say “YES” to something is one potentially helpful way to get there. And creating a “not-to-do list” could be even more clear and effective.
And so if we used a little reverse psychology and tweaked these ideas in a very specific, yet simple way… and instead of finding all the right things to do… we could look at the things you would do if you were trying to fail at something.
How to Fail at Getting Healthy
So now, let’s say you want to get healthy, lose weight and really get your eating in line. So let’s go ahead and start by identifying the steps to take if you wanted NOT to succeed. And then from there, you can get yourself to avoid those things!
Without going into all the best practices for how to do this… Here’s a few things you would do to fail here:
- Eat a lot of highly processed, low-quality foods, sodas and snacks (fast foods, take out, microwave meals, candy, chips, etc)
- Spend a lot of time and money at cafes, consuming lattes, pastries…
- Spend a lot of time and money trying to cook and prepare gourmet quality food at home…
- Over consume meats, animal-based and dairy products at every meal… avoid vegetables…
- Binge drink alcohol, consume drugs, tobacco, etc…
- Avoid working out or exercising on a regular basis…
- Stay up way past midnight most nights and don’t get a good night’s sleep…
- Stay inside all day and avoid natural sunlight…
- Live on caffeine to get you through your day…
The list could go on and on for sure… but you see where I’m going here…
Again, the process is simple: identify things that are a sure course for failure… and then avoid them!!
Doing such will naturally cause you to make better choices, or at least consider healthier options.
This is a path to not only eliminate what holds you back, but also to simplify your life and help you focus on making good decisions.
If you can cut off the bad options in your life, you’re left with less to choose from, and hence things start getting a little easier. And that’s the key to success, managing the things you think about… and finding a routine that is simple enough for you to handle and maintain day after day, week after week, month after month, etc…
